The rich jungles of Periyar has the most fascinating natural wildlife reserves. The Periyar forests are one of the evergreen forests. There is a splendid artificial lake formed by the Mullaperiyar dam across river Periyar which enhances the charm of the area. Thekkady is located near to Kerala-Tamil Nadu border. It has a moist deciduous forests and savanna grass lands. It is the home of elephants, sambar, tigers, gaur Nilgiri Langurs etc. Thekkady is also the heaven of natural spices, black pepper, cardamom, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger and clove.
